‘Passwordless box’: how to improve access security

What do you spend in terms of time and resources in managing access control and attendance systems? Have you ever thought about what risks your company is exposed to because your systems are obsolete and unsafe? ‘Passwordless box’ by airpim is the first solution that integrates FIDO2 — the innovative technological standard for secure authentication — with an access control and attendance system. The electronic key cannot be cloned.

Access control and attendance detection systems via terminal and identification badges, in particular those with magnetic strips, are still among the most widespread in companies. The technologies on which they are based are outdated and unsafe. And badges are a weak link in the security chain because they can be easily cloned.

The airpim team, which is constantly engaged in the research and development of innovative services, has developed ‘Passwordless box’, an integrated, hi-tech but easy-to-use authentication system that significantly improves access security to company premises and the attendance survey of employees and visitors. It might represent the alternative to traditional access control systems.

‘Passwordless box’: all the security in a plug & play box
‘Passwordless box’ manages the opening of electrically activated doors and turnstiles. It can be quickly activated: simply connect the box to the POE (Power Over Ethernet) network cable. The solution consists of an NFC (Near Field Communication) radio reader combined with an intuitive web management system to record personal data as well as define user access rules and enable the AllInPass FIDO2 Plus (contactless) biometric electronic keys of Feitian Technologies, a company leader in security systems with which airpim has signed a partnership agreement.

Through the AllInPass FIDO2 Plus electronic key with biometric control (fingerprint), the system uniquely identifies the user and detects his or her physical presence. ‘Passwordless box’ performs the authentication, authorization and accounting process: if the user is authorized, he or she is recognized by the system, the doors open and the transit of the user — in and out — is recorded.

Safe access to the premises
Compared to the most popular access control systems, ‘Passwordless box’ integrates with existing infrastructures such as Microsoft’s AZURE Active Directory. The key is GDPR compliant, cannot be cloned and is strictly personal: in no way can it be used by outsiders. The Feitian Technologies token is available in electronic card format and has USB C, NFC (Near Field Communication), BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) support, with biometric recognition.

“We are very proud at Feitian Technologies to witness with airpim, the execution of the possibilities that our Feitian Fido 2 solutions have to offer. Coupled with airpim solution, being able to access passwordless and true passwordless with biometry for authentication and physical access control, this association replies de facto to the current increasing need for safety, security and mobility” explains Julien Larsonneur of Feitian Technologies”.

“Our team is constantly engaged in the research and development of innovative services with a high technological value. ‘Passwordless box’ is a powerful, safe, plug&play solution. I would like to thank Feitian Technologies for the collaboration. It is great to have strong and reliable partners at your side who boast solid experience and whose quality you can rely on” says Tiziano Tresanti, Ceo and founder of airpim.
